  • Procedure for pendulum 1. Set the length of the pendulum (from the point of suspension to the centre of the pendulum bob) to 1 m. 2. Set the pendulum in motion by allowing it to swing through a small angle. Note the theory above only works at relatively small angles so don’t allow the pendulum to swing through a large angle. 3. Using a stopwatch, measure the time taken for 20 oscillations (i.e. complete swings) 4. Repeat step 3 twice more 5. Determine the periodic time, T, for one swing at this length 6. Repeat this procedure for decreasing lengths of the pendulum. Reduce length by 0.1 m at a time until you reach 0.3 m. 7. On graph paper, plot a graph of T2versus L and use the slope to determine a value for acceleration due to gravity. 8. Determine the percentage difference between your experimentally determined value and the accepted value for g. 9. Write a detailed report as per guidelines.

Place the thermometer inside your solar-collector such that the temperature of the trapped air can be monitored and measured. It is very important the initial temperature inside the box is equal to the outside air temperature before the sunlight hits the clear surface and begins to warm up the trapped air. 5. As soon as the solar-collector is supplied with sunlight, measure the temperature of the trapped air inside the collector at suitable time intervals & record in your table.

Attach a sheet of A4 paper behind the strings and draw the directions of each of the three forces. Do this very carefully. 3. Measure and record the value of each mass m1, m2, m3. 4. Calculate the value of each force F1 = m1 .g, F2 = m2 .g and F3 = m3 .g. Each force is caused by the weight of the appropriate mass and W = m.g. Record values in your table.
