Instruction
Review and reflect on the three phases of motor skill learning as described by the psychologists Fitts & Posner PowerPoint attached (1967). Think about the characteristics of each stage.
Consider the following situation. You are an instructor/coach of performers in the cognitive stage of learning in (you pick the motor activity).
Would you rather be a mute (lacking speech faculties)
OR
quadriplegic (paralysis of all four limbs)?
There is no right or wrong answer to this question. However, whatever your response, you must defend it with knowledge of the characteristics of the cognitive stage.
Do you think one condition would be more effective than the other? Either condition presents some obstacles. How would you overcome those obstacles? What would you need to do to effectively convey instruction to your new learners? Include how you would deliver feedback to the learners.
Your response should be a typed, double spaced essay of no more than 500 words that includes evidence (citations) as well as a personal reflection. Refer to the rubric attached for further guidance.
