Instruction
In preparation for the capstone research project, you are required to write an annotated bibliography that identifies and briefly describes the primary and secondary sources that will be consulted in producing the research project. The bibliography must include at least twenty-five primary sources (archival materials, photographs, contemporary newspaper articles, oral history interviews, autobiographies, memoirs, letters, government documents, etc.) and twenty-five secondary sources (books, book chapters, and scholarly articles). The description of the primary or secondary source must be in your own words. For guidelines on how to write bibliographic entries, I recommend the following website: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/chicago_manual_17th_edition/cmos_formatting_and_style_guide/chicago_manual_of_style_17th_edition.html.
The research project is a 20-page, double-spaced research paper on a focused topic on the history of civil and human rights movement. Approximately five-pages of the essay should focus on the historiography of the civil rights movement that we have covered in our class sessions, five-pages should focus on the historiography of your topic, and ten pages should be based on original, primary source research.
Your essay will be graded based on content (40%), analysis (30%), style (20%), and grammar/spelling (10%) (see the paper grading rubric).
