1. The binomial distribution can be used to estimate probabilities in situations that have two possible outcomes. Although probabilities are not definite, they are better than a guess. When a definite or clear answer isn't feasible, probabilities can help us make informed decisions. Predicting the Weather One of the places we tend to see probability use on a regular basis is the weather channel. For this assignment, you will use the binomial distribution to make weather-related predictions, and ultimately compare two locations. New York State: In New York State, in April, the probability of snow happening on any given day is 30% (0.3). Knowing this, use the binomial distribution formula to determine the probability of it snowing on four (4) days during a given week (7 days). Pennsylvania: In Pennsylvania, in April, the probability of snow happening on any given day is 10% (0.1). Knowing this, use the binomial distribution (and the resources mentioned above) to determine the probability of it snowing on four (4) days during a given week (7 days). Provide a summary of 1-2 paragraphs in which you address the following: Present the values you assigned to the components of the equation [n, p, q, x, P(X)] Remember: q = p - 1 Present the probability of snow on four days in a week for both locations. Compare and contrast these probabilities. Explain how this sort of prediction could be useful in everyday life. Be sure to include supporting detail from the readings, as well as other scholarly sources. 2.The Importance of Aseptic Technique Handwashing is very important in the clinical setting. After researching the topic, please address the 10 questions below (in your own words). You may number your answers to make it easier to read. Please submit your well organized lab exercise as a doc, docx, pdf or rtf file. What are the healthcare-associated infections and how are they transmitted? What is hand hygiene? Which is better, washing or disinfecting your hands? Why is hand hygiene important? When must hand cleansing be performed? Who must cleanse their hands? How is hand cleansing performed? How long does it take to cleanse one’s hands? What factors must be taken into account to prevent damaging the skin on one’s hands? Can wearing gloves be a substitute for hand cleansing? 3.Discussion: Interpreting Normal Distribution No unread replies. No replies. Data is a great way to begin assessing a given situation. It provides us with information regarding what exists, and it gives us a way of answering questions. However, data in its raw for is really just a pile of numbers, words, and/or phrases. In order for data to be useful, we must analyze it depending on the situation. Finding Your Percentile One way in which this can be done is by calculating z-scores and identifying percentiles. Consider the following example: Data on social media use was collected from a sample of college students. The average daily amount of social media use by this group was found to be 4 hours, with a standard deviation of 1 hour. Consider your daily social media use, and then develop a main response in which you address the following: Identify approximately how many hours you used social media today. Use this value, the sample mean (4 hours) and standard deviation (1 hour) provided to calculate a z-score for your own daily social media use. Use the normal distribution table in your textbook to determine the percentile for your z-score. Explain what this means, and what it implies about your social media use in comparison to the sample.
