Letters of Character
—The letters should be dated, signed, and typed in business letter format.
—The letters can be addressed:
To Whom it May Concern
Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office
207 W. Phillips
Conroe, TX
—For readability, avoid small fonts and use frequent paragraph breaks.
—Suggestions about Content:
The letter writer should identify their relationship to you; state their job; how long they have known you, and what they think of your character.
For example: hardworking, moral, good co-worker, good daughter, great teacher, etc. Describe specific instances of good conduct, helping others, future plans, and so on.
The writer should acknowledge the charge and if accurate, express surprise. For example: “When I heard Ms Rose was charged with credit card abuse, I could not believe it. She would never steal from anyone.” Or “Ms Rose is a dedicated teacher and would never break the law.”
The letter writer needs to acknowledge the accusation and state an opinion about it.
—AVOID: opinions about the police and pleas for mercy about punishment like “If given one more chance…"
The focus should be on you and your character.
Truth and sincerity are key.
