This was a note I received from my professor: I just read your essay and found the material powerful and quite moving. You definitely have a story to tell, and it's admirable how much you have achieved considering the conditions from your childhood that you described here. Unfortunately, the writing itself needs a lot of work. Without getting too deeply into it here in this email, your verb tense kept shifting back and forth between present tense and past tense, many of your sentences were awkwardly written, and overall, the essay needed more clarity with regard to the specific details you included. Feel free to make as many edits as needed, and add/delete some stuff. Needs to be at least 5 pages.
