Consider whether the articles come to similar or different conclusions. Is there consensus among researchers on this topic? Or is there a “gap in the literature” that needs to be filled by more research? Do these articles support your argument? If so, how? If not, why not? My argument: Mutual aid allows us to join together to give people the resources that they need. In this paper, I will discuss why people join/contribute to mutual aid organizations in order to discover how a community comes together in a time of need. I predict that people in my community join mutual aid groups to get the resources that they need and to help others in the community. A successful literature review organizes discussions of prior research according to themes rather than simply discussing each article in its own paragraph. For example, if three of your articles discuss mutual aid, write a few paragraphs comparing/contrasting the findings of those studies. Consider how authors are in dialogue with each other. Your literature review should be organized in a way that builds on and supports your argument(s). Your goal is not to summarize each article in detail but to provide a “big picture” overview of the study. What is the major takeaway point or main conclusion from this study? Toward the end of the literature review, provide a synthesis of a paragraph or so: - Describe how the articles are relevant to your study - Describe how the articles fit together (is there an agreement or disagreement in the findings about your topic?) - Identify the "gap in the literature": describe how your research project adds to or is different from prior research I will provide the articles via pdf that you will use and only use.
