Essentially, the writers at The Atlantic go deeper than simply laughing at jokes, wondering about plot, or crying through scenes. (...Did you notice the long series in the last sentence, by the way? That's an example of keeping a series parallel. Whenever you list a series, each part should use the exact same structure.
