InstructionCompare and Contrast Paper: Student are expected to research and provide a written compare and contrast paper on two North American sport governing bodies. The paper should include similarities and differences between the governing bodies on a number of elements. An excellent paper will include a thorough discussion of not only how they are similar or dissimilar but also why they have these characteristics. The elements required for the comparisons are, mission, membership, eligibility, regulatory power (or similar) and current issues. Students will demonstrate understanding by pointing out the similarities and differences between the governing bodies and a rationale for these similarities or differences. For example, are their missions different because of the purposes of the two organizations (profit/nonprofit), political factors (public pressure/legal requirements), environmental factors, the populations they serve, their funding models or etc.? The content of your paper should go beyond just who they limit membership to, but why is the limitation is important to the organization. What is the reasoning behind the differences or similarities in eligibility requirements? Why the governing body does or does not possess regulatory power? Maybe they possess regulatory power over some issues but not others. Why is this? What current issues are they addressing? Why do the organizations have similar or dissimilar issues? The papers will be evaluated for content, format, and writing quality. The content of the paper consists of the student’s research into two North American sport governing bodies' mission, membership, eligibility, regulatory power (or similar), and current issues. The paper format should include the following: a minimum of five double spaced pages with 1” margins on all sides; required text and/or other sources to support the comparisons made about the organizations; and information that is not the student’s original work or thoughts must be cited in text and be included on the references page. The APA 6th edition formatting guide should be used throughout the paper. The quality of writing will be evaluated based upon the presence of a clear introduction and conclusion, accurate spelling, standard grammar usage, and proper punctuation. See the below rubric for detailed grading criteria. Due by 11:59pm CST, Sunday
