At the 2000 UN Millennium Summit, the Millennium Development Goals were adopted with the aim to end extreme poverty worldwide by 2015. These goals touch on education, gender equality, access to capital, water, food, agriculture, sanitation, technology and many other areas. Here at home, 43 million Americans live below the federal poverty level. In Texas alone, over 4 million of our neighbors live in poverty. How do we reconcile these numbers with the growing prosperity in the US and in the world? GDP is growing both here and globally yet poverty is increasing. How are we to address this situation? Possibilities may come from public policy, private/public partnerships, philanthropy, corporate social responsibility, NGOs, or other sectors. So, heres the question: Given this challenge, where would you start to engage this problem?
