If possible, assess how the system has affected the overall economy of this country—or vice versa (how has the economy affected health care?). Patient Satisfaction How satisfied with this system are the citizens of this country? How long is the wait for services? Is there rationing of supplies, medicines, or services? Does patient satisfaction have an impact on healthcare in this country? If so, how? Is patient satisfaction even assessed? What impact does patient satisfaction have on the improvement of healthcare? Benefits Who can use the system—citizens only? Foreigners? Both? What benefits might someone in this country expect? Are people denied services, and if so, for what reasons? Are there stipulations/laws (like EMTALA in the US) that patients cannot be turned away from the ER based on ability to pay? What are the health outcomes for the citizens of this country? Providers Who provides the care? Doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants? What types of facilities are used? Community, private, etc.? How up-to-date are the supplies, equipment, etc.? How plentiful is equipment? How many health care providers are there? According to the WHO, how does this country rank in the world as far as quality of healthcare? Where, according to the WHO, does the current U.S. healthcare system (before health care reform occurred) rank in the world? An explanation of how all of these components impact the ability (negatively and/or positively) to improve healthcare. *The group will produce ONE chart for the country you've chosen. The group will have a leader who will post the completed chart (along with an APA-style reference list of websites and sources used) to the discussion forum by the due date. Compare the completed chart with the one posted to the discussion forum (by Thursday) by the instructor. Respond in the forum comparing and contrasting the two different systems in your response posts. In a final follow-up post, choose which health care system you would prefer as a patient and why.
