What were your expectations of this movie before you watched it? What were they based on? How did the movie meet or not meet your expectations? A handful of important things to know about your papers: First, if you do everything I ask for and do it well, you'll earn a 95. This is a terrific grade! I reserve 96-100 for excellence. I almost never grade a paper that earns 100. Second, never include the questions in your paper. Your papers are essays. You should incorporate the question into your answers. For example. If I were to ask "What was your favorite moment in the movie?" instead of including the question, you could simply state, "My favorite moment in the movie was, “....." Feel free to use First Person POV. Third, every paper will state a minimum word count. I do this instead of pages so that there are no concerns over font size and margins. I do, though, take it very seriously. If you do not meet the minimum word count (headings do not count toward word count) the highest grade you can earn is a 70. There is no maximum word count. Fourth, I have seen all the movies I assign. This means I will never ever need a synopsis or play-by-play of the movie. Use as much description as you need to answer the questions, but simply telling me about the movie in your introduction will not count toward the required word minimum. Fifth, proofread and edit your papers. Yes, poor grammar, bad syntax, and misspelled words will count against you. Capitalizing and italicizing the titles of movies is as important as capitalizing proper nouns. Do both. Sixth, you MUST use paragraphs to organize your thoughts. Generally, use one paragraph for each question you answer. Sometimes you might even use two to answer a question if you are giving an extensive or more complicated answer. Papers that do not use paragraphs will receive a zero. Seventh, there is no need to use citations in these papers if you only refer to the movie itself and our text book. If you consult other resources then you should include a works cited page as well as use proper citations within your paper. You are free to use MLA, APA, or Chicago. Lastly, I take plagiarism seriously. All of your papers will be automatically submitted to TurnItIn. I will look at anything over 10%. If you have not cited your sources and/or have copied from any source other than your own brain, you will receive a 0 for that paper and not be allowed to complete any extra credit. If it happens more than once, you will fail this course, and I will write a letter to your dean.
