InstructionDiscussion question: Which evidence-based counseling theory best supports the client coping with trauma and other mental health issues? Justify your answer. Student response: Evidence-based treatment (EBT) pertains to a therapy that has been scientifically validated. For example, research has been done and significant study on a certain treatment which has been verified, and validated to be effective. The objective of EBT is to support the use of established, successful therapies while reducing the use of untested, potentially dangerous treatments (Good Therapy, 2016). Using evidence-based treatments, like, cognitve behavioral therapy, in counseling for clients coping with trauma and other mental issues can be helpful because the counselor is utilizing interventions that have been successful in the past with other clients. This can possibly reduce the amount of time the client will need to identify which treatment and interventions work better with them. Not only this but it can hopefully even reduce the amount of therapy sessions the client needs. However, ever client is different and just because some treatments work for one individual who went through similar events does not mean that it will be the same for all clients which is why it is always important to modify treatments based on the clients' specific needs. There will also be clients that might not be able to leave therapy completely and that is okay, as long as that client is implementing interventions and continues to feel supported (Good Therapy, 2016).
