Make sure your speech meets the following requirements: • Introduction includes an attention getter and thesis statement that aligns with one of the four options given for the Demonstration Speech. • Speech is thorough and detailed and chronologically covers all steps necessary to demonstrate the process. • Student demonstrates expertise on the topic and relays information clearly to an presumably unknowledgeable audience. • Speech uses at least one visual aide to assist audience in visualizing the process. • Speech refers to at least one credible source and provides APA citation. • Speech shows consideration and accommodation of the audience (e.g., provides background knowledge if topic is specialized). • Conclusion contains one or two of the following: summary of key ideas, quotation (emotional or factual), rhetorical question, challenge to the audience, or call to action. • Presentation demonstrates consistent eye contact and is clear/audible. • Presentation demonstrates non-distracting behavior, occasional use of hand motions, and varying vocal pitch and speaking rate (not monotonous). • Speech is 4-6 minutes long (30 second grace period either way).
