Exam 1 Part 2
Short Answer Topics
Preparation & Criteria for Success
You will write short-answer essays on two topics for this exam. One topic has been selected by your professor, and the second topic will be by you from a list of topics. When preparing your responses to the topics include specific examples and illustrations, including any relative people, places, events, and terms, from the lectures, textbook, readings, and film. Be as specific as possible, avoiding vague generalizations. Your comprehensive response should be 500–1,000 words or more each.
Your responses should be typed and uploaded to iCollege (please only submit .doc, .docx, or .pdf files; do not submit files with a .pages extension). Any response not submitted on iCollege before the deadline will receive a zero (-25 points) regardless of the reason. Any evidence of plagiarism will result in a zero on the entire exam (-100 points). Your professor will not accept or grade submissions sent through email before or after the deadline.
Excellent short-answer responses will receive a score of 10–12.5 points (the maximum you can earn per short answer is 12.5), they will be well organized, contain all the relevant specific facts (people, places, events, and other details), address the topic, well written (grammar, spelling, etc.), and meet or exceed the word count. Good responses will receive a score of 7–9 points, they will be organized, contain most of the relevant facts, remain on-topic, contain minor errors of grammar and spelling, and meet the word count. Adequate responses will receive 4–6 points, and are barely organized, contain some the relevant facts, but is mostly a generalize or generic response, stays on-topic, poorly written, and just below the minimum word count. Poor responses will receive 1–3 points, and contain little to no organization, no specific facts or examples, only generalized or generic responses, poorly written or barely legible, and are far below the minimum word count. Terrible responses are plagiarized, copied-and-pasted from the Internet or other source and will receive 0 points.
Please only use the assigned readings and course content, no outside research is necessary.
