1. The work that human services does with the LGBT and transgender populations starts once they are incarcerated, human services have to make sure to keep them separated from the general population because of the risk of them being raped and possibly murder by other inmates. Once human services are notified about the LGBT and transgender client about to be released, they need to make sure they have a safe place for the client to go to.
It is very important to clarify goals, for some members of the LGBT and transgender populations this might be their first time being incarcerated and others might have been in the closet before getting arrested. In San Francisco, we have a large LGBT and transgender population, and therefore it is easy to get them the help that they need once they are released.
San Francisco has many programs for the homeless, mental health, and substance abuse clients that are reentering society after incarceration. We have the Delancey street project, Taylor street center, and the goodwill that helps clients and places them in the right location to get them clean, back on their meds, and or give them a place to stay until they are back on their feet. 2.Human service works okay a dominate role in any correctional persons life as they head out for reentry into society. When it comes to the LGBTQ and transgender society the human derive workers can do a lot to help. Most of the time whenever these people go they are not social accepted. There are many programs and discussions that can be applied for The transgender and LGBTQ community to feel same and help them with the social isolation that will come. There are programs that can be placed in the communities to help the LGBTQ better adapt to normal life, work, and etc. At the end of the day they should feel comfortable and go back into the world with all the resources that are given to help their success.it is very important to clarify goals related to potential probables in the community for many reasons. As time comes the LGBTQ and transgender community will need basic necessities for themselves. Especially in transition it can make things very hard to find a doctor and get insurance. Most of the time people do not extend their arm for the LGBTQ community and they are left empty handed. This makes it very hard for this community to flourish when they are not recovering what they need. This can cause depression and a lack of social encounters. There would be a need of coin king or groups fo meet together and discuss what they are all going through. There are many programs and specific things that Dan happen in order to make the LGBTQ community feel just as important as everyone else.
