Write an essay in which you inform the reader about the topic. Do not, however, write the essay in the first person. Instead, write in the third personi.e., Astronomy is an innately interesting field of study, not I am extremely interested in astronomy.
You will need to integrate a minimum of 2 sources. Remember that an informative essay does not include the writer's feelings or opinions, but simply informs the reader about the topic. Make sure you refer to your Essay 2 checklist before and after you have written your draft. All essays should be in MLA format and contain the essay checklist. Your essay should be between 500-750 words.
I have added my topic as well as some info that I would like to be talked about to the paper.
Topic: Steroids in sports.
Thesis statement: Steroids in sports is not only bad sportsmanship, but it also has very bad side effects, provides for unfair advantages to players, and can be detrimental to a sports player's career.
Outline:
A. Why steroids cause bad sportsmanship: Steroids are bad for sports due to the unfair advantage that it gives the person using them versus the natural player. The athlete that uses steroids has the ability to perform exponentially better than they could normally which results in the putting up numbers that clean athletes couldnt. A good example is in baseball with the home run record with cheating athletes like Sammy Sosa, Mark McGuire, and Alex Rodriguez.
B. What their side effects are: There are a lot of side effects from using steroids both positive and negative to health. Some of the common less severe effects are acne, hair loss, and high blood pressure. Steroids on the positive side heal your muscles faster, and help the athlete heal faster. The greatest risk of all is death. Probably the first drug-related death in sport was the cyclist Arthur Linton in 1896, who apparently was administered strychnine by his coach. (Mottram, 30).
C. How they are detrimental to a sports player's career: Steroids can become detrimental to a players career in various ways. By failing a steroid test it becomes public and all the accomplishments that the player achieved now have a question mark next to them. Some of the health consequences are heart attacks, and liver cancer. A big problem, but not well known is severe depression which can ultimately result in suicide.
