Assignment #1 I want you to understand the various elements associated with labeling theory. More specifically, I want you take into consideration the aspect of labeling as a cause of deviance.
Do you agree with the perspective that labels can push someone to engage in crime?
Why or why not?
Assuming that labeling does increase crime, what policies or procedures could be enacted to minimize future criminal offenses?
Please use at least the book and one additional source for this assignment.
Assignment #2 The objective of this thought paper is to relate one or more concepts from our discussion of Attitudes (Chapters 9 and 10) to something that has happened in your life. (This can include events that have happened to friends and family, if it makes sense to write about them.) Importantly, I don't want you to spend a lot of time defining or explaining a bunch of terminology - but do provide a simple description of the concept(s) at some point in the paper so I know you have a basic understanding of the concept(s) you are attempting to discuss.
Importantly, I want you to try to dig deep and relate stuff from your life to SPECIFIC ideas you have learned about attitudes and/or persuasion. In other words, I want you to avoid a generic discussion of only the most vague concepts that you probably were already familiar with. For example, discussing an experience that involved dissonance theory is much better than a broad discussion of "attitudes” in general.
The main body of a thought paper (i.e., excluding any preliminary material like your name, the date, the paper’s title, etc.) must be single-spaced and between 400 and 500 words in length (seriously!). And please remember - grammar and spelling count! Papers with mistakes in these areas will DEFINITELY lose points.
