Three-point Thesis Statement
We are required to develop a three-point thesis statement that we will use for the Annotated Bibliography and Persuasive Research Essay #1. We learned how to develop a three-point thesis statement in English Comp 1101. An effective thesis statement states the argument and why that is the argument in one sentence. This is done by merging your main argument with the three reasons (keypoints) that will prove your main argument is right into one sentence.
Example thesis statement: AMSC is the best college because it has inexpensive tuition rates, understanding professors, and is located near Downtown Atlanta.
Let us break this thesis down to help us gain a deeper understanding: The main argument of the thesis statement is: AMSC is the best college. The three keypoints (reasons) that support this argument are: because it has inexpensive tuition rates, understanding professors, and is located near Downtown Atlanta. I combined the main argument and three keypoints to develop a one sentence three-point thesis statement.
Please remember that a thesis statement is not a question, but your answer to a question. Example: My thesis statement is should abortion be legal? This is not a thesis statement, but a question. The answer to this question can be developed into a thesis statement: Abortions should stay legal since it is a women's right to make choices about her body, making abortions illegal will cause health hazards, and not all women are prepared to be parents.
