(1 x 70= 70 points) Your response should be about 400 words. IMPORTANT: Please write the number of your chosen prompt at the beginning of your written response. Over the centuries, literary critics have offered comments, theoretical reflections, and different points of view on the issue of using imagination and creativity in literature. Choose TWO theorists who addressed the advantages and/or the disadvantages of creating an imaginative portrayal of reality and EXPLAIN each theorist’s main message about what literature should do. Many a theorist has offered views on literature by focusing on his/her own literary productions and by reviewing the process of invention, structuring, and writing of his/her own literary texts. Chose TWO theorists and compare the ways in which they outline their own poetics, i.e. their own methods and goals in creating literature. As a general practice, literary anthologies and textbooks portray Enlightenment as “the age of reason” and Romanticism as “the age of sentiment.” Choose TWO authors, one for each age, and discuss the ways in which theories by these two authors can be said to complicate the abovementioned simplification by challenging the too neat separation between intellect and emotions.
