Students have to read the book by Hazleton, "After the Prophet". After reading the book, students must develop a coherent 5 page essay (minimum) in which they address the following questions: - What is the main issue being addressed in the book and why? What is your argument (thesis) in understanding and explaining the significance of the issue? - What are the main ideas highlighted by the author in the discussion of the topic? what historical evidence does the author present in support of the various ideas discussed in the book? - What primary and secondary evidence can be incorporated to either support or contest the perspective put forward by the author? In what capacity does the author succeed/fail in the presentation of their perspective? - What is the historical relevance of issue in relation to the study of the subject in class and why? Requirements for writing the Research Paper: The essay should be a minimum of 5 pages in length, excluding bibliography. It must be submitted typed, doubled spaced, in Times New Roman font, Type 12, with standard one-inch margins and with proper citations for references and a bibliography at the end of the paper. The only acceptable online citations are those from online academic journals. Under no circumstances should online sites such as Wikipedia.com or others be utilized as references. Students must also ensure to use correct grammar, as organization, style and correctness will account for 20% of the grade on the paper. Students are advised to refer to the writing rubric for the course. The paper will be due on 26 March 2015 and No later papers will be accepted! All students will be required to submit a hard copy as well as submit a soft copy of the paper on "Safe Assign" on blackboard.
