Instruction
"From the Romans to Charles V". It's up to you how you wish to divide it up. Each one of you will have a maximum of 10 minutes to present the information. 2. A visual support is very important. You can prepare a Power Point (or similar) slide show, in which you can include important facts, maps, photos, illustrations -- along with facts, of course. 3. The historical period assigned to you spans over 15 centuries, so you have to select the most important information, and only the most meaningful dates. Keep in mind the following: - When speaking about the Romans, it's important to mention their valuable contributions: language, legal system, administrative system, roads and aqueducts, etc. - Mention the name of the Roman provinces in the Iberian Peninsula, and some cities the Romans founded and still exist today. - After the Romans, mention the arrival of Germanic tribes. Identify them and mention where they settled. Their distinct identities will be the basis of the many kingdoms that sprang in the Iberian Peninsula. - The Middle Ages is an important period. Mention the different kingdoms, and the arrival of the Moors in 711. I will be covering the Moorish presence in Spain, so do not spend too much time on it. - Mention, of course, the importance of the year 1492 in the history of Spain and of much of the Western World. In that year, the last Moorish bastion in Granada was conquered, the Jews were expelled from Spain, and the American Continent was discovered. - The Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella, have to be mentioned in some detail. - The transition from Ferdinand and Isabella can be presented quickly, until the arrival of Charles V. Mention the Habsburgs of Austria and Charles V's reign in some detail. He was a very important king.
