  • The first Englis Assignement is: I began my career as a writer with a fanatic commitment to outlining. I never wrote without a detailed outline - a clear roadmap of where I was going. This was essential to my success in school. In time one becomes less dependent on outlines. But at first they are essential. Outlines will help you get started, focus on what you have to say, stick to the point and not get lost. Eventually you will learn to navigate without a map. But for starters, cartography is essential to keep you on the right path. Your assignment: Open a newspaper. Find an issue to do with the international politics. Use the TUI library to do some searching. Try to pick an issue you feel strongly about. Keep it narrow and simple. Make it small. Don't pick `the Middle East peace process`. Rather, pick something like, `the candidate wants Jerusalem to remain undivided`. I don't really care what the issue is, or what your perspective is. I just want to make sure it is a manageable topic. EXPECTATIONS: At the top of the page, write one paragraph stating the issue. Tell me what the issue is. Then, in one sentence, tell me your position on the issue. After you create the opening paragraph, develop a detailed outline for a five page paper on how you will prove that position to be true. Please note: You will be using this outline later in module 3 of the course. Do not lose it!
