Well start by seeing what resources the course texts offer for beginning to understand what was going on in the world in 1915, then branch out into some aspect of 1915 that youll get curious about, research in depth, and write a paper on. In the second half of the term youll divide up into research teams focused on 1815, 1715, 1615, or 1515, then write a paper about your year that relates to your first paper somehow. The final paper will put the first two together and transform them by developing the connection, whatever it is. Much of your grade will depend on how well you work independently within general guidelines; how effectively you adopt and adapt course instruction to your own work; how widely you seek relevant information within and outside the course texts; how thoughtfully you focus your essays; and how effectively you relate your specific focus to more general contexts, issues and perspectives.
