  • Essay Prompt: In the last part of our course, we have explored contemporary reinterpretations of Jesus in light of various contextual and global perspectives. Latin American, Feminist, and African-American theologians have suggested that the theological writing about Jesus needs to take into account an understanding of Jesus as a liberator of the oppressed. The New Monasticism of Shane Claiborne has called Christians not just to understand Jesus but to follow him as a role model. Peter Rollins (see "The Orthodox Heretic") has called on us to see how the movement from modernism to post-modernism can reconfigure the meaning of being a Christian. Finally, the debates over universalism and particularism (see John Hick and Geivett/Phillips) have asked us what it means to follow Jesus in a global world where there are good human beings of many different religious persuasions. In this paper, I want you to use readings from at least Two of the assigned days of discussion. Show the strengths and weaknesses of the views of Jesus and faith these theologians provide. Show where you stand on the issues they discuss. Explain why you think others should share your perspective. I don't need anything to open a discussion just in General. and from a non-christian prespective.
