Discussion 1: In The House on Mango Street, why doesnt the main character want to inherit her great grandmothers place by the window? What is the girls reaction to the mother throwing out their high heels and why? In what way is power (Marxism) and feminist philosophy a theme of this novel? You may discuss the empty bird cages, caged/trapped women, power struggles, socioeconomics and or the taking of women etc. to support your views or whatever else you think will support it. -------- Discussion 2: Why is it so important for Esperanza to get her own perfect house with large windows throughout the book?
