I particularly agree with their position that it seems much of the media we consume is repetitive and lacks meaning that strays from or resists the status quo. Two main takeaways from this reading are: 1: Entertainment is designed to make folks complacent in the life they live. It is designed to offer an escape for individuals, which is really a mechanism to keep them compliant and content despite their exploitation. 2: Everything that is created is really just more of the same. It appears as if we have many choices, but really our choices are repetitions of the same message over and over but in different packaging. I believe this can be, as positioned by the authors, a tool of social cohesion that dispels the potentiality for dissent because it creates the illusion of excess.
