i need help with my fluid mechanics project. The Problem: The town of Kennerdell, Pennsylvania is growing. This small community along the Allegheny River is growing and needs a new water reservoir to supply drinking water to the town. You and your team of engineers have been called upon to design this structure. The Assumptions: Kennerdell is a real city north of Pittsburgh. It lies on the Allegheny River and is easily located using Google Maps or some similar software. The Reservoir needs to be located within a 30 mile radius of where the center of town is marked on the map with the pin. It should also be located no more than 1000 feet from the Allegheny River as you are going to fill the reservoir from the river. The town population has grown to 20,000 people. The reservoir should average 21 feet deep through the year (you can just assume that the entire structure is 21 deep) and it should never get below 15 feet deep. The reservoir should be 20 acres in surface area. There will be channel from the river to the reservoir that is 4 deep and 3 wide. There will be a motorized gate between the channel and the reservoir that will be used to fill the reservoir when it is running low. The Engineering Report Your engineering report should be submitted as a proposal to the Army corps of engineers who will be doing the construction of the reservoir. It should consist of at least the following items: A design report for the reservoir including: o Location of the reservoir o Recommended material for the construction of the reservoir o Detailed structural analysis of the channel and reservoir o Fill gate design including what sort of motor would be needed to power the gate and the forces involved in lifting it. o 3D model of the entire structure o Tentative schedule of how frequently the gate will need to be operated in order to keep the reservoir at its minimum depth. (Hint: Consider water consumption per capita, addition by rain and snowfall, losses due to evaporation) A cost analysis of the materials to construct the dam (ignore labor to prep the site and construct the dam, the Army works for free) An environmental impact study at the site of the dam
