Instruction
The topic is Knowledge as anything other than JTB, Justified True Belief
1. Research your topic using reliable sources such as texts or reliable websites.
2. Explicate the major theory of that topic. What does your topic mean? What is it about?
3. Write a brief biography of the topic, such as what I do in class when I introduce the topic. For this particular chapter, that means the history of the idea in question. Who came up with it? When? In response to what? Was this theory well received or did people ignore it?
4. Find an opposition to your topic. Explain how the opposition is effective against the topic. The realists hated the idealists so explain why and what points they use against one another.
5. I will assume that youre using MLA formatting unless you mention otherwise. If you are using a different format, put in a footnote that says what format youre using so that theres no mistake. I expect at least one source to be cited in a section called References tacked onto the bottom of your last page about a full space away from your last paragraph. You can use multiple sources, but I only expect one reliable source. Unreliable sources do not count. If you are using only one source, you dont have to include parenthetical citations. Otherwise, note which source your info comes from.
6. I really dont care what formatting you use, but the length requirement starts at your first paragraph, so it does not include the heading of your paper. You can use either Calibri or Times New Roman fonts, and any size between 10 and 12 points. The margins should be 1 inch all around.
7. Your essay should be 2-3 pages long. You can use single or double spacing. I recommend writing your paper in single spacing until you feel that youve covered everything, then doubling it if its less than 3 pages. I accept all spacing options between single and double, so Im fine with 1.5 as well. If its shorter than 2 pages (which, remember, actually means shorter than 1 page and 6 inches) even when double spaced, you didnt write enough.
8. This paper is due before class on October 26th. I dont take late work. You have plenty of time to do this paper. If you wait until the last minute and your computer crashes, that sucks for you. You shouldnt have procrastinated.
For this paper, it is okay to use psychological data because epistemologists commonly dabble in psychology and sociology.
