Discussion 1 In what way is the form and rhyme scheme in Sylvia Plaths poem Daddy so vital and ironic to the overall feel and point/meaning of the poem? Why does Plath use the metaphor of Nazi Germany and call herself a Jew? Like Plath you will notice that Di Brandts form is also fitting of her content. In Di Brandts poetry how does form fit content in terms of her lifestyle choices and quest for truth and individuality? In The Long White by Jan Beatty why is the narrator so vulnerable? Why has this girl been getting in cars with men all her life? And who is she truly looking for? Discussion 2 How does the narrator pay homage to no name woman and at the same time express fear of her in the short story No Name Woman by Maxine Kingston Hong? How would the fate of the baby be different had it been a boy? Discuss the expectations of females in this culture, how do they differ? Why do the villagers raid the house? The author gives us many possibilities for how her aunt may have become pregnant, why does she do this? Obviously she doesnt know enough about her aunt because the aunt is a shameful family member that they pretend does not exist but dig deeper! Why all of the possible scenarios?
