This is what the book says in Chapter 9: Developing software for wireless devices is challenging for several reasons. First, there are a number of competing standards for application development on various devices. This means that software applications must be customized for each type of device with which the application may communicate. Second, software applications have to adapt to match the requirements of the device, not the other way around. Specifically, all software must deal with the technological challenges of small display screens, reduced bandwidth, limited input capabilities, and restricted memory that are common on most mobile devices. In the desktop computing world, the inability of a computer to properly load an application due to insufficient memory is solved by adding more memory. In the mobile computing world, the solution is to redesign the application.
