PPT Assignment
Required sources:
at least 5 secondary/critical sources; 2 must be peer-reviewed
at least 1 primary source (literary text, artwork) written/created before 1600
DO NOT rely on Wikipedia or About.com as major resources for the project. These can be useful as effective ways to get started, but only use them as a springboard to other stronger resources. The bibliography and further reading sections of Wikipedia pages can be particularly helpful in finding additional sources.
The break down of slide content:
The required slides content progression are as follows (and some numbers here may have more than one slide necessary to complete them):
Title slide
Basic introduction to the event, place, or figure as he/she/it appears in legend; a focused statement on why this event, place, or figure is interesting and important as a cultural phenomenon (look on this as a sort of "thesis" for the project)
Brief discussion of whether or not the figure/place/event is known in different cultures.
Overview of the major versions of the legend (pre-1600, post-1600, and modern): what authors are known for writing versions of the story in which the event, place, or figure is found? Are there any other major artistic works (paintings, murals, operas, symphonies) related to the event, place or figure? How this figure, place, or event has survived into modern times or notare there modern (19th, 20th, 21st century) re-workings of the story? This should probably be 3 or more slides long; exact length will depend on the topic. It's not a bad idea to have different group members tackling different periods.
