Instruction
I need someone to carefully read the instructions below:
You will write a thought paper of approximately 5 pages in length. The purpose of a thought paper is to answer a question about, or present your analysis of something in the reading, lectures or discussions that you think deserves comment. First, you must demonstrate an understanding of the central issue the author or authors raise and you must be able to explicate the methodology employed by the author. Is the methodology appropriate for the research problem? (This is an issue that we will spend a great deal of time on in class.) Second, what is troubling about the issue you have selected? Why is the issue important? For example, what relevance does the Greek treatment of women have for us today? Is the household an essential foundation for the sustainability of the state today? If so, how is the household to be managed and maintained? Third, take a position on the question or research that you have decided to review. Defend your position in the form of an argument. Attempt to develop your own critique. Your purpose is to think critically about the scholarship that you are reviewing. One question always to ask yourself: is the theory or scholarship that you are reviewing important only in a narrow academic sense or does it have important implications for society as a whole?
It is very important to ask yourself about the relevance of philosophy for politics today. There are those who argue, for example many conservatives, that all of the important political questions have already been raised and answered. A liberal might deny this, but nonetheless would find relevance in studying the ancient texts. You should try to make your own assessment about this issue.
I leave the selection of a topic to you. The creative process is often best served by asking the question. I will provide plenty of possible topics in the lecture and I will attempt to post some possible questions from time to time.
- All written assignments are to be typed and double-spaced. 'Use Times Roman font 12'
- Number all pages
- Use a title page. No binders, folders, etc.
- One inch margins all around.
- The first paragraph should contain a thesis statement and the outline of your paper. Do not delay this until later paragraphs. The thesis statement should contain a description of the topic you are examining, and how you will examine it. You should also make some statement about why your topic is important, or why anyone should read your paper.
- The body of your paper should present the substance of your argument. In longer research papers you should always include a review of the relevant literature.
- The conclusion should bring together the various parts of the paper and lead to your final analysis or judgment about the question. Please indicate whether your research has left important questions unanswered, or where future research might begin.
Name of the book is:
'The Broadview Anthology of Political and Social Thought: Essential Readings'
I want someone who has read it or is good in this field.
Attached a picture of the book for you to know which one is it. You may be able to find an online version of it if you'd like to read it before starting the paper.
