The purpose of these papers is to: experience Latina/o culture in spaces outside the university learn about the history of artists in the city that actively promote Latina/o cultural expressions and how they affirm Latina/o identity theorize Latina/o cultural production by synthesizing concepts and ideas that youve learned in the readings The first section of your essay should include a summary of the major points of the event, with a brief description of the artist or artists showcasing the event. The second section should establish the connection between performances in the event and points covered in class. Your paper should relate to the readings and make analytical connections with concepts presented in class. Make sure you reference at least one of the readings from the course. The final and longer section should include a personal reflection about the event. For example, you may want to reflect on the ways in which the event expanded your understanding of Latina/o culture. Attend the entire event (1-2 hours), take plenty of notes, and if possible, interview the artists, staff and/or patrons. You will need to attach your notes and any evidence of attendance (pamphlets, ticket stubs, program, etc.) to your paper on the due date. I will make announcements about events throughout the semester. However, it is your responsibility to research cultural events and plan accordingly before the deadline. If you know about a musical event youd like to share with the class, please feel free to post this on Blackboard.
