Career Development Plan (5 Year):
The Career Development Plan should be a minimum of 5 written pages, double-spaced, with no reference section. It may be ordered in the following way:
Part I - Biographical, Experiential, and Educational Information:
Full name (Address, phone #s are optional)
Current position, including salary (optional)
Employer name and location
Other positions you deem important
College degrees and dates
Certifications/Licenses
Part II - Part II Autobiography
This can be similar to what we talked about in class. If you recall, we mentioned how we selected an occupation, who or what influenced us, family factors, factors surrounding married life, stages of our life, money matters, any regrets, etc. You have this written down already, so you can just plug this in.
Part III Summary and interpretation of assessment results, including personality, work interests, leisure interest, values, skills, abilities, preferred work environment, job satisfaction. Remember to include the Myers-Briggs and Hollands Self-Directed Search results. Any other assessment you may have taken that pertains to your ability, interests, or personal attributes. You may include copies or even screenshots.
Part IV Short-term and Long-term Plans and Goals
This part begins with your Career Mission Statement (basically, this is your objective). What job or career are you seeking? Do you have a plan? If not, this is the place to start one. Use the example of goal-setting presented in the book (4.3). Also include how you plan to get there. For example, what financial resources are available to you in the event you want to get a Ph.D.? If the job is out-of-town, how do you plan to resolve family issues. This is the place in the Plan where you think through your goals. You may set up intermediate goals, as shown in 4.3.
