Week Five
TOPIC/FOCUS: Managed Health Care- origins Plans
and organizations.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of Week Five, students will be able to :
1. Define and describe the main types of managed care organizations (MCOs), integrated health care delivery systems and consumer-directed health plans.
2. Define and describe the terms network development,network management and reimbursement as they pertain to the Managed care Organizations and the various provider sectors.
3. Discuss the numerous types of plans that have emerged through the integration of administrative, financial, and clinical systems to both deliver and finance healthcare services.
4. Describe the basic governance and management structure of health plans .
5. Explore future trends in MCOs
LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
1- Collection and review of assignments from Week Four student presentation on ACA
2- Introduction of Managed Care Organizations.
3. Facilitated discussion regarding the history and evolution of managed care .
4-Facilitated discussion regarding MCOs, integrated delivery systems, consumer directed health plans.
5- Watch movie about managed care, Damaged Care discussion/critique.
6. Small group exercise (if time permits)
7- Review assignments for next class

ASSIGNMENTS:
Due at the beginning of class in Week Six
1. Investigate where Dr. Peeno today or did her work impact managed care guidelines- complete a one page paper reference information in APA.
2- Complete a position paper (your opinion) on the movie, Damaged Care one to two paragraphs and be prepared to discuss in class .
