Health Promotion Assignment Objective: To use action research to help change unhealthy behaviors. Health Promotion Phase I Objective: To establish a need for why an unhealthy behavior needs to be addressed. Phase I Tasks: 1) Identify a small group of people you would like to work with this semester to administer a health promotion intervention. Examples might include roommates, family members (parents, siblings), bible study group, etc. 2) Identify an unhealthy behavior you feel is an issue that your group can improve upon. Examples might include drinking more water, exercising more, getting more sleep, eating less fast food, etc. To get a good understanding of what unhealthy behavior to select, please talk with your population to determine the most immediate need. 3) Establish the need for this unhealthy behavior change. Establishing the need will consist of two parts: a. Developing a short survey that will allow you to understand your groups baseline for the identified unhealthy behavior. b. Conduct a literature review that supports, from an empirical perspective, that the unhealthy behavior is needed for that particular group or population. 4) Develop a powerpoint presentation, that discusses what population you plan on carrying out your health promotion on, what behavior you plan on tackling, and the established need for executing a health promotion intervention. Please make sure you reference in APA the empirical research you use to support your need for a health promotion intervention. Powerpoint Voiceover Instructions: ( Don't worry about the voice over I will do it) 1) Students first complete the powerpoint presentation. 2) Once the powerpoint has been created, the student will then go into powerpoint and select the slide show tab. 3) Under the slide show tab, select record slide show and start from the beginning. 4) A small box will appear. In that box, the following should be checked: 1) Select and animation timings 2) Narrations and laser pointer 5) Hit start recording 6) The powerpoint will then go into the slide show mode; students will begin speaking and talking through their presentation as if they were in class. 7) To advance to the next slide, use the arrow keys. The discussion will then carry over to the next slide. Powerpoint Voiceover Tips: 1) Make sure the computer microphone is on. 2) It is always a good idea to practice once or twice before making it final; old voiceovers are easily deleted by selecting the megaphone and deleting it out of each slide. Slide 1: Population/group you will be working with during the health promotion intervention (2.5 pts) b. Slide 2: Identified unhealthy behavior you will address in the health promotion intervention (2.5 pts) c. Slide 3 or More: Established Need: i. Results of baseline information for your population (please include the survey questions in an Appendix at the end of the powerpoint presentation) (15 pts) ii. Literature Review (minimum of 3 research articles) that support a health promotion intervention for your selected group or population. All results must be cited in APA both within the powerpoint slides and at the end in a reference list (10 pts). d. Powerpoint with Voiceover (2.5pts) e. Spelling and grammar (2.5pts)
