Thesis Statement Some notes about thesis statements: 1. A thesis should be one well constructed sentence that lays out your main argument. In an essay, the thesis statement is usually the last sentence of the first paragraph. When one sentence would be too awkward, two well connected sentences will do. 2. A thesis is not a question (it is really the answer to your historical question, which you will then support with evidence). 3. A thesis is not a fact or simply topic statement, but again, it is a well thought out statement that shows your main points that will be discussed in your evidence.
