The introduction should have contain a concrete example that demonstrates why your topic is important to think about in 2016, even though the authors in our textbook may have written about it a long time ago (or, in the case of Barak Obama, during a presidency that is about go through a changing of the guard). To receive an A, you will need a clearly written introduction with a compelling example and good diction (word choice). During class on October 4 you looked at a number of images related to the proposed topics for your essay. I encourge you to use one of these images -- or one you find on your own -- at the head of your essay. Your introduction can then be a description of the image, as it relates to your topic (or a hypothetical story about the image, in which you describe what is going on in the image in a story form, with setting and characters facing a situation).
