Finding Newspaper Articles: Tips for Finding Digital and Microfilm Archives
Finding specific dates for the event in the 70s of your choosing is absolutely critical. The more specific the date or date range, the easier it is going to be to find pertinent articles for your assignment. Refer to the sources below for specific dates/events.
Theres a good photo essay on the CNN website called 70 Historic Moments From the 70s. Two good timelines are The 1970s in Pop Culture, Politics & Beyond and Americas Best History Timeline. How to find them? Just use Google!
To find the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, go to the librarys web page at library.indstate.edu. Click on the Articles and Databases tab that is near the middle of the page, and below the search box, click on Databases A-Z. Click on H and then on Historical Newspapers (from ProQuest). This will take you to the Proquest site where you will see photos for the different options in the middle of the screen. Click on News and Newspapers. You will be taken to a list of databases, choose the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal. The Chicago Defender and the Baltimore Afro American are also on this list and are of considerable interest
Contact Brian Bunnett at brian.bunnett@indstate.edu if youre still stuck.

Interested in extra credit? Microfilm is stored in alphabetical order in an alcove in the basement. The microfilm readers are available for use on the first floor, and circulation staff will be available to walk you through the directions if you need help.
