Activism Paper
* I HAVE ATTACHED RUBRIC*
NEED IT DONE BY 12PM CENTRAL TIME ON11/11/16
Objective:
The purpose of this activism paper is to learn about a local organization doing important work
related to a topic that interests you. It will allow you the opportunity to learn about the how
different people are approaching the concepts and social issues weve discussed in class. It may
provide you a way of thinking about what kind of work you may want to do in the future (either
professionally or voluntarily) in order to take part in solving real-world problems.
Methodology:
1. Identify a Houston-based organization that is responding to issues related to women,
gender, and/or sexuality.
2. Closely read their website to learn what they do. Read about them in newspapers and
other sources as well, if necessary in preparation for your visit.
3. Call ahead and arrange a visit to their location. Arrange for at least one interview
with someone at the organization to learn more (staff, the head of the organization,
and/or someone who has used their services, etc.).
4. Write about your findings in a 1,000-word report.
5. Some questions you may consider answering/discussing in your report:
a. What are the missions or objectives of this organization?
b. How do they go about fulfilling those objectives?
c. How many people do they serve (per month, per year, etc.)?
d. How long has the organization existed? What is the story of its foundation?
e. What achievements and/or services are they most proud of?
6. This paper must be in MLA, Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, with 1
margins.
**The list of questions is not comprehensive. There may be other questions you may want to
consider and you do not have to answer all of them. The list is merely designed to provide a few
jumping-off points for your paper.
