I need one page on a religion theories. The examples that should be followed on the same path and subjects. What you should do is that take the main ideas and the famous people then give some thoughts on it as discussion. These are the examples 1)C.G. Jungs theory involving archetypes and the collective unconscious was unlike any theory we have studied thus far. It is interesting to me that the theory describes the integration of the four major archetypes in every person and that, after interconnecting, the archetypes distinguish someone as being fully individualized.
This individualization justifies the archetypal patterns found in both fiction and reality. The same general stories are often repeated throughout history, with only slight variations in setting, plot, etc. Perhaps all humans are positioned to appreciate these timeless stories because the archetypal figures are appealing and easily recognizable by the brain.
The way in which this theory associates society with the brain intrigues me. It appears that every individual in society, according to this theory, subconsciously recognizes the archetypes. In society, the archetypes when integrated model proper behavior. Rather that imagining a sector of the brain that elements this behavior, I imagine many people tuned in on the same frequency, in a way that positions them to recognize the integration of the archetypes as wholesome and virtuous.
This recognition certainly accounts for religions that extol various people, figures, prophets, or beings. According to this theory, Jesus, for example, was charismatic, persuasive, and revered because he was a fully individualized being. Prophets in other religions may have been more influential because of this same transformation.
Jungs proposition contrasts with those of other theorists because it implies that the ideas are not created by individuals or society but rather inherited biologically. Would this imply that religion is biological and can be explained by further examinations of the brain? Perhaps humans are religious because they are biologically inclined or directed to identify religion. Culture certainly shapes human thought, so would the cause of varying religions be the integration of the way in which thought is shaped by culture and society with the subconscious task to identify religion?
2)This week we talked about William James and his theory regarding experiences. James is a pragmatist in life as well as in the realm of religion. This means that for something to be real, it has to be experienced; therefore, having something is better than just imagining or thinking of it. According to the example we used in class, that when comparing an imaginative ice cream cone in your head and one in your hand, James would say that the ice cream cone in your hand is better than the picture of the ice cream cone in your head.
However, I disagree with this idea. The ice cream cone in my head is ten scoops of all different flavors with unlimited toppings, all inside of a cone that is bigger than my face. This cone is also free of charge and doesnt contain fat or calories. On the other hand, the ice cream cone in my hand is one scoop, one topping, five bucks, 500 calories, and is already melting on my hand. I understand that this ice cream cone in my head isnt real. However, if it was it would be amazing. After eating the ice cream cone in my hand, I feel like I need to go run a marathon.
Another problem I see with James theory is in his statement regarding the reality of religion. He states that one can only justify religious beliefs if there is a positive personal result. This then can be used as evidence to support the hypothesis truth. I believe and trust in God. However, theres many times in life when I call on him and I dont seem to hear anything back or see any change in my life. Does this then mean that my believe is not justified now? I dont think so. God is incomprehensible and all powerful. He has a greater plan which includes his perfect timing, even if it doesnt match up with our plan and our timing. I dont one individual can or should have the right to justify someones beliefs.
3)Last class we discussed William James and his pragmatist view of religion and Ericsson's stages into adulthood and how those were obtained and surpassed faster with the help of religion. When looked at James's idea I agree with it for some of the time, but the thing that bothers me is that people use imagination for hope or distraction and to live a life where that isn't reality because its not real seems sad. Little children have invisible friends for when they are lonely, this causes them to not focus on the reality of being lonely and they actually feel a connection with these "friends" they have created. I think that imagination and mental things are important to keeping human hope alive, maybe we know that the ice cream isn't real, but if we work hard enough it can become real. Its a sensitive topic, but I think that there are many truths and falses to his claim.
I found it crazy how Erickson's steps are almost exactly at the same level that science has for the stages of development as well. I think the most spot on stage he has is from 4-19 years old, because being a 19 year old myself I know that i think i know who i am, but truly will not actually know until im older and have figured out what my plan is. You truly can't figure it out, but by the age of 19 you have to have most likely picked a path that will potentially be your life, such as choosing a major etc. The final stage of 19-24 plays into te virtue of Love and question of "can I love?" which i think is very important. At our age people have probably truly felt love for some significant other about once in their lives on average. I think that when that (most likely) ended caused major drawbacks in the love category because then people tend to second guess themselves and doubt their ability to love.
What I need is good quality work. Also, I need it before 10 am, but If you could do it before that would be great
