By "text," I mean the epic poem. You should have begun by introducing The Odyssey, the same way I did on the whiteboard. That's pretty basic. Your explanation of the importance of Odysseus's experience in the Land of the Cyclops is also poor. First of all, you never mentioned that Odysseus had gone out of his way to create a false identity specifically so that Cyclops would not know his name. Revealing his name at the end of the experience therefore becomes all that more illogical. He knew that it was dangerous to reveal his true identity but did it, anyway. Why? Moreover, you're missing the whole point of the scene. You claim that this did not help or hinder his journey home. Are you sure about that? Not only did it greatly hinder his journey home, it almost killed him later on in the story! Your argument's just not working here. Finally, the section of the essay about your own life is unacceptable. You're not explaining or proving anything. Please give two reasons with explanations as to specifically why home and family is more important to you. What does home and family give you that you cannot find anywhere else? Be specific. Then describe an experience from your own life in which you had to choose between success and family. Go into detail about what decision you made and why. This essay needs more work...
