Instruction
Patent Application. (Patents Due on Wednesday 12/7) 100 points/25% of total grade
The students final project will be a complete draft of their invention. The format must follow
existing patents. It MUST include related prior art, an abstract, diagrams (with number labels)
and a thorough explanation of parts/processes within the inventions description.
The students draft of their patent application will be an amalgamation of all of the previous
exercises from class, but will include a description of their invention with numbered parts that
reference their diagrams and illustrations.
The final draft must follow the format of traditional patent applications. An example of one of
the instructors patent application drafts will be provided as a template for formatting (font type,
size, spacing, margins, etc)
The final patent application draft must include:
Title of Invention
Abstract
Inventors name
Claims
Description
o Background
o Technical Field
o History of Related Art
Summary of the Invention
Brief Description of the Drawings
Include all numbered figures
Detailed Description of Illustrative Embodiments of the Invention
o Include all numbered references which describe the parts of the
diagrams/illustrations
