Write a 2-3 Paragraph response to this discussion:
Ethical modeling is a collection of guidelines that shape an organization's ethical standards. Some of these guidelines are a company's values and mission statement, along with other more common sense standards of ethics. For example, many company values are based around their code of conduct, where they lay out the expectations of how their employees act. As found in the reading, it is sometimes found that a company's public values are different from their private values, which can mean more unethical behavior. Some common sense expectations that are common in ethical modeling are always doing the right thing, and not put yourself in any compromising business practices.
Management of a company must set the example of how their organization acts. If management does not do the right thing, how can they expect their lower-level employees to act ethically? For example, I work as a Quality Manager for a trucking company that delivers cars. Last week, a dealer called claiming a damage. When speaking to the driver, he acknowledged that the damage existed, but the dealer did not report the damage timely. Would it be unethical for me to deny this dealer's damage claim that I know existed? In the end, we accepted liability for the damage because our company does our best to operate based on honesty and not deceit. While our driver may not like this outcome in this situation, I'm sure he can understand our position on the matter. This is just one example of how important it is for management to act ethically, in order to be a role model to the lower-level employees.
