News Journal
Students will choose one international, one local, and one local partisan news source from the following list:
International news source: The Guardian
Local news source: CNN.
Local partisan news source: Breitbart News Network.
Students will:
Follow the same three sources weekly for fifteen weeks.
Write one journal entry per week (due by Sunday at 6:00 pm each week)
Post their entry to Canvas under Assignments either using the text entry box or uploading a .doc/.docx file
Each entry you should:
Read all three of your news sources throughout the week. Using the news sources app on your phone may be a good way to get alerts about news that interests you throughout the week.
Focus on: major geopolitical, economic, or environmental headlines, paying particular focus to stories covered multiple times/in multiple sources.
Briefly summarize two or three major stories from each news source. Make sure you clearly state which source supplied which stories. Stories may be on the same topic for different news sources or they may all be about different topics.
Compare what you learned from your local source, local partisan source, and international source. Was one source more valuable than the another this week? Do you feel as though it was a slow news week or has something world-changing taken place? Did one news source view the same event differently from another?
Did any of the news you read link to topics we have discussed in class since the semester began? How so?
Each entry should be no less than 2 and no more than 4 paragraphs long. The minimum length of a paragraph is four complete sentences.
