Large events impact all sorts of people. While we may focus on famous or powerful individuals it is often people far away from the centers of decision-making that have invaluable perceptions and recollections of events. For this assignment you may interview a friend, family member or member of your community who is old enough to have strong memories of the Cold War (i.e. someone who is over 40 years old). Ask them the following questions (and any other questions you would like): 1- What are your memories of the Cold War? 2- What were you taught about the Soviet Union and Communism? 3- Do you remember being afraid of things like nuclear war or a Soviet invasion? 4- Did the Cold War color your perception of events such as the Olympics? 5- How did you feel when the Cold War ended? After taking down your interviewees answers, synthesize their memories by writing a 600 word response in which you answer the question, How did the Cold War impact the life of the person you interviewed?
