1. What does it mean to "become a member of society"?
2. What is the "generalized other" and how does it help shape children's growing sense of gender identity?
3. Devor writes that "dominant persons of either gender tend to use influence tactics and verbal styles usually associated with men and masculinity, while subordinate persons, of either gender, tend to use those considered to be the province of women" (418). Think of well-known public figures who exemplify (or challenge) this claim; that is, locate either 2 male figures who are more or less "masculine" or 2 female figures who are more or less "feminine" and examine the attributes that allow us to make this judgment accurately.
