\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Is Technology Producing a Decline in Critical Thinking and Analysis?
Read the article Whats Lost as Handwriting Fades. Skills, taught for generations in middle or high school are becoming staples of regular elementary schools. We talked about Digital Natives, however consider these students learning keyboard skills and yet not including cursive writing! Education is an important part of our Digital Divide, and in the next few areas of our regional studies, we will see how important education is in improving the economy and the citizens standard of living.
This issue will deal with your opinion. Consider the article and your experiences and answer the following question.
Questions:
1. Some schools are now introducing the concept BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). With a variety of digital devices in the classroom, does this now add a need for the teacher to also be very computer literate or is this an opportunity for the students to teach the teacher?
2. Studies show that reading develops imagination, induction, reflection and critical thinking as well as vocabulary. Reading for pleasure is the key to developing these skills. Should digital devices be used in schools for reading skills?
3. Do video games strengthen skills in multi-tasking? We often here about the negative aspects of video games but is there a positive side for future workers?
4. Do you believe cursive writing should be part of the schools curriculum? Do you believe that the persons signature will be important in the near future?
