A Doll's House by Ibsen
Just need the questions answered does not have to be in the form of a paper.
1. How is Mrs. Linde responsible for Noras awakening? What exactly is that awakening? Why does Mrs. Linde seemingly treat Nora so harshly, even telling Krogstad to leave the note, which will obviously hurt Nora? Break down the relationship between Nora and Mrs. Linde. They appear to be friendly, but what tension is there between them? How does this tension eventually affect Nora?
2. What part does Krogstad play in this play, or what is his importance? Is he a flat character, one that has only one dimension to him, or is he more complicated, a well-rounded character?
3. What is the significance of Mrs. Lindes and Krogstads relationship, especially at the end of the play?
4. How does Helmer treat Nora, and how does Nora feel about it? Why does he reprimand her for some things, while at the same time supporting her behavior? Note her role in the house, too. What is it?
5. In the end, why does Nora still leave, sacrificing her reputation, probably, even after Helmer forgave her? Is her leaving selfish? What does her leaving have to say about independence for women? Does it matter whether Helmer pursues her or not?
6. Tell me about Noras handling of money. Is she still seen as childlike once you consider how she seems to be pretty good with money? Why does she keep it secret that she borrowed money to save her husband? Tell me about Krogstad and his motives for holding a signature over Nora. Are they complicated? Okay, considering his background? Why does he send his final letter?
7. Near the end of the play, Helmer says something about the greatest miracle, but he never defines it. What do you think he means by the phrase? How do you know?
8. What does the story have to say about gender roles? Why was Nora so interested in saving her husband? Love? Money? How does Noras leaving at the end help us to think about it?
